U.S. Open, 2010: Brisk Merchandise Sales (Already) At Pebble Beach Golf Links
August 31, 2008
Like the Super Bowl, Olympics or soccer’s World’s Cup, U.S. Open Golf Championship sites are awarded years in advance.
As such, during the Walmart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links (Aug. 29-31), the merchandise store for the 2010 U.S. Open on the famed Monterey Peninsula was open and doing a brisk business.
The spacious building, just off the Pebble Beach putting green and a short walk from the first tee of the famed course, features a full complement of apparel and auxiliary items.
Golf caps run $29.50 to $32.50, pastel organic cotton T-shirts $85, sleeveless wind vests $120 and knit golf shirts $150. And there’s a vast selection of other items, umbrellas to posters, leather notebooks to sun visors.
A good share of the merchandise features five stars as part of the logo — one star each for the five U.S. Opens held at Pebble Beach — 1972 (Jack Nicklaus), 1982 (Tom Watson), 1992 (Tom Kite), 2000 (Tiger Woods) and the pending 2010 championship, scheduled June 14-17.
